Professor Dr. Hirtle, Stephen C


Dr. Hirtle is Professor and past-chair of the Department of Information Science and Telecommunications at the University of Pittsburgh, Research Interests: Spatial information; classification; cognitive science; geographic information systems; hypertext and multimedia systems; visualization; neural networks. 

 

 

Professor Dr. Munro Paul

Research Interests: Connectionist systems; neural information processing; image processing; modeling and simulation; cognitive science; models of learning; visualization; genetic algorithms/artificial life. Principal Research Area: Neural Networks-> Group for Research on Idealized Neural Systems, Learning , Neurobiological Models , Hybrid systems with Genetic Algorithms, Data Compression and Error Correction, Spatial Cognition, Visualization of backprop learning ...under construction and Medical Diagnosis

 

 

Professor Dr.Marek J. Druzdzel

Marek Druzdzel, Associate Professor at SIS, is the recipient of the 2007 Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award. Each year, Pitt Chancellor Mark A. Nordenburg presents these awards to faculty whose “individual efforts stand as an inspiring example of excellence in the role of University teacher.” This award honors Dr. Druzdzel for his commitment to creating a challenging learning environment for undergraduate and graduate students. In particular, his integration of research and teaching – by allowing students at all levels to participate in his Decision Systems Laboratory -- was lauded by the Chancellor.
Dr. Druzdzel’s research interests include decision-making under uncertainty, decision-theoretic methods in intelligent systems, and user interfaces to decision support systems.

 

 

Profressor Bert Landau

More than 20 years of experience (all but 2 years were in higher education) as a Chief Financial Officer: Senior Vice President for Finance & Administration at Drexel University, Associate Vice President for Finance & Administration and Controller at the University of Arizona, Director of Finance with Tucson Unified School District Number 1, and Comptroller and Assistant Dean for Fiscal Systems/Audit at Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona.Specialization->1)Finance and budgeting processes and 2) systems Administrative management software.

 

 


Profressor Dr.Robert Regan


Research Professor - Visual Information Systems Venter (VISC)
Dr. Regan specializes in geographic information systems (GIS) and database design. His professional career includes senior level positions in the federal govern-ment, major corporations, and universities. In the early 90's he served as Director of the GIS Center at Boston College wherein he designed and developed a geographic information system and program for the earth sciences. Dr. Regan has extensive background in the development of GISes as spatial decision support systems having designed systems for state agencies, toll road authorities, and municipalities. Dr. Regan also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Pittsburgh where he conducted several GIS short courses, taught several courses in GIS, and currently teaches a class on database management and design.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wichian Premchaiswadi
Dr.Wichian Premchaiswadi is a former Dean of Faculty of Information Technology, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Lardkrabang (KMITL).
Research Interests: Database System, Parallel Processing , Document Analysis and Processing, Character Recognition, Computer Multimedia & Multimedia Database, Neural Networks, Image Processing, Data Mining, System Development.Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wichian Premchaiswadi

Assoc. Prof. Dr. James Joshi

He is an Associate Professor in the School of Information Sciences in the University of Pittsburgh. He did his MS in Computer Science and PhD in Computer Engineering degrees from Purdue University in 1998 and 2003, respectively. Before coming to the USA for the graduate studies, he was a Lecturer of Computer Science and Engineering in the department of CSE at Kathmandu University. He finished his BE in CSE degree from Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College (now, MN National Institute of Technology), India in 1993 under the Colombo Plan scholarship. Here are some current highlights:
- A recipient of the NSF-CAREER award, 2006 
- Program Co-chair for CollaborateCom, 2008. 
- Program Co Chair Chair for SACMAT, 2009. 
- A cofounder and director of LERSAIS. 
- Currently, He also direct the Information Security program at the SIS.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Martin B.H. Weiss

He isan Associate Professor of Telecommunications at the University of Pittsburgh. He is also serving as the Chairman of the Department of Information Science and Telecommunications and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Research for the School of Information Sciences.
